Winding Brook Golf Club 1989 – 2009
Total Golf Inc. – James Dewling
Valley View Golf Course 1969 – 1989
The Moeggenbergs –[1971 – 1977] ~ It was a dream of Shepherd’s own John Moeggenberg. He was also owner of Moeggenberg’s Men’s & Boy’s Wear in Midland, MI. The course was designed by Henry Walsh, Cletus Moeggenboerg, and John Moeggenberg. It was under construction 1969 to 1972, with the Clubhouse built in 1971. Brothers Cletus and John were co-workers until the early spring of 1973 when Cletus sold his share to John. Cletus moved his family to Mesa, Arizona and John moved his family from Midland to Shepherd in order to manage Valley View Golf Course and Restaurant. The main floor consisted of a dining room, lunch room, cocktail lounge, kitchen, and office. People drove miles to enjoy their excellent cuisine and special occasion buffets while enjoying the panoramic view. It overlooked a picturesque view of the hills and valleys of the Golf Course and the Little Salt River. The downstairs contained areas for meetings, banquets, and locker rooms; with a Pro Shop opened to the golf course. The Valley View complex has been sold several times with a name change to Winding Brook by the present owners. John was ordained a Deacon in the Catholic Church seven months after he sold the Valley View complex in August of 1977. He is presently the Pastoral Administrator at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Cedar, Michigan.
